No matter how trendy or normal it may present. Lack is not a normal thing. Many people use economic realities, recessions and the likes to justify poverty which is understandable but not totally ideal.

I had gone to the airport to pick one of my Uncle who just got back from United States of America. The traffic was so heavy on our way back. It is the typical rush hour in Lagos when your James Bond skills must be top notch. My uncle was quite shocked at how I maneuvered in between the vast array of cars yet not hitting anyone or anyone hitting me. Though not the ideal driving scenario, it is a skill you unconsciously pick up as a Lagosian in response to the temperamental and dramatic drivers on the road. Some time ago, I used to follow my sister to choir practice out of boredom. We grew up in an Anglican Church and you know hymns are a big deal in an Anglican Church.

Usually, I would just play around while they continued with their rehearsals because I knew I couldn’t sing to save a life (mine inclusive).

It turned out our church would be hosting other churches in a program, hence, the need to draft in more choristers and do more rehearsals. The church contacted a choir director from outside who took over the leadership of the choir.

The man came and mandated all youths to do voice test. It was during the voice test that he discovered me. In all his years of experience as a choir director he had never been that confused. My case was critical, I don’t fit in anywhere.

He reluctantly told me to join the tenor singers and warned me never to sing out loud. Apparently they needed me just for the numbers.

Since, I started this fitfam life. My fruit seller has made a fortune from me. I buy fruits almost every day. When you invest so much discipline in your body and stature, you will know that “You look good” is not just a compliment. It is a reward for hard work 😂😂

Steadily, we surge through the undulating path that leads to the Rafiu’s compound. There is just one reason why we don’t take the main road when returning home from school. It is because of the fruit tree inside the Rafiu compound. We all are armed with enough stones in our bags. It is actually a ritual we fulfill everyday. We must pluck these fruits.
